Spring Term Review

Date: 16th Jun 2021 Author: Alex Fairbrother

Your local Scout group hopes you are all keeping well and safe as we take the next steps out of lockdown and hopefully into a glorious summer getting back to doing the things we love.  We have continued with Zoom meetings in all sections, up until a few weeks ago when Cubs were the first group to return to Face-2-Face, and boy did they LOVE being back!  The Beavers have followed suit and returned after the May half term and the Scouts are hopeful for a return in Summer.

We’ve had many young people from each group move up to their next sections and are very proud of all of them for continuing with Scouting during these difficult times. The last few months have been packed with learning and fun for our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts with lots badges earned and challenges completed.  Well done to them all.

We held our St Georges Day ‘parade’ via Zoom again this year but we very much look forward to filling the streets of Dorking in 2022 for a proper parade, full of pride with all the District groups, in our best ironed uniforms!

Over the past couple of weeks’ we have been grateful for many donations for the Bags-2-School project.

Our super exciting news is that at the end of May, after decades of struggling with very outdated and faulty equipment, we finally had a brand new shiny and very beautiful kitchen installed! We would like to say a huge thank-you to Howdens for their generosity in agreeing such a charitable price for the Group and also to Howdens Guildford for kindly gifting us a brand, new cooker, hob and big fridge freezer! The addition of a fully functioning kitchen will transform our abilities, and meetings and we are extremely grateful.

We are also always on the look-out for more volunteers for Leaders and Section Assistants, so if you would like to give us a little of your time to help the group and its amazing young people who are after all, our future, please contact Alexandra, Group Scout Leader.  Help teach the next generation for the benefit of all.

On a final note, we’d like to thank all our parents, carers, leaders, assistants, exec committee members and of course our young people.  Without your never-ending enthusiasm, support and valued commitment we would not have been able to get through this, so and enormous thank you to all our team and their supporters! Here’s to a bright future.
